Reliability at the Farmgate
Dec 17, 2024
The new year comes quickly in the feed industry. Supplying animal nutrition over the holiday season requires preparedness, which involves continuously improving procedures and equipment. The United Cooperative Feed Team understands the importance of delivering quality and consistent feeds for livestock production every day of the year to the farm.
Many aspects of the United Cooperative Feed Division are important to provide the unmatched capabilities and reliability needed in today’s and the future of the production animal industry. Maintaining the infrastructure of feed manufacturing is a daily task. Projections for future growth are also essential to United Cooperative. The management team is working years ahead on proposed expansions and improvements to each facility. The new mill construction in Waupun is a powerful move for preparedness in animal nutrition supply, but not to overshadow other capital improvements always in motion. Developments of a successful infrastructure are constant like recent expansions to ingredient storage and finished feed bins at the Wilton Feed Mill completed earlier in 2024.
Improvement of feed manufacturing processes is necessary for advancing capabilities and efficiency. Some processes are also mandated by regulations like the Food Safety Modernization Act to improve our nation’s food safety system. As regulations are monitored by the FDA and Wisconsin DATCP, it can be harder for aged facilities to comply, leading to a reduction in active mills. Acknowledging current regulations and considering potential changes goes into the planning process for future developments. Technological advancements also bring productivity improvements like automated packaging to speed the process and improve employee safety.
While the technology and equipment of United’s Feed Mills are significant, the mills' capabilities would not be realized without the talented team of employees that surround them. From leadership and operations to the on-farm sales and advisory teams, United Cooperative is proud to have the personnel to support our customers’ endeavors and missions in livestock agriculture. United Cooperative is more than the equipment, rolling stock, or facilities seen from the road. The years of experience of the entire Feed Team allow United Cooperative to continually offer unequaled capabilities, value, and reliability now and for years to come.
